Market Report: Bay Area Home Sales in April 2020

Each month we publish a Monthly Market report, which shows home listing prices and sale prices for the previous month. (You can use the Monthly Market tool free on our site to see how each zip code’s sales have changed month to month.) 

April 2020 was the first full month of local shutdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic. We saw much lower inventory in the Bay Area area. Many sellers were uninterested in having prospective buyers in their homes for showings, and thousands of listings were pulled off of the market. Read on for more…

Lowest listing price (by total amount in $):  Van Ness/Civic Center (94102)

Lowest sales price (by total amount in $): Van Ness/Civic Center(94102)

Most homes sold in April 2020: The Castro (94114)

Highest number of days on market: Marina District (94123)

Lowest number of days on market:  SoMa (94103)

Lowest price per sq ft: Hunters Point (94124) at $670/sq. ft., up from last month’s $650/sq. ft. in Portola

Highest price per sq ft: Financial District- South (94105) at $1,522/sq. ft., up from last month’s highest price per sq. ft. in Mission Bay (94158), which cost $1,433/sq. ft.

Keep in mind that this data is based on closings in April. Most April closings would have had offer dates in March.
